Firefighter/EMR/EMT- Greer SC 

Full-time 

Annual Pay Rate: $37,000 

Specific Certification: South Carolina IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter II,  Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician 

 

Position Summary: The Firefighter will work on shift (24/48’s) reporting to the Fire Department Shift Captain. The Firefighter will respond and operate on all emergencies to include, but not limited to, HazMat, Fire, Rescue (vehicle extrication, confined space, low angle), and medical emergencies. The Firefighter will be responsible for driving, operating and maintain fire apparatus and assigned apparatus equipment. The Firefighter will be responsible for all duties delegated by the Lieutenant and/or Captain.  

 

Essential Functions:  

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Firefighters may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, positon specific duties.  

 

  • Responds to all types of emergencies such as Fires, HazMat, Technical Rescue, and medical. Firefighters are expected to operate at firefighter II level, at minimum hazmat operations, technical rescue skills (auto extrication, rope rescue operations).  
  • Conduct monthly fire protection checks (fire extinguishers, PIV’s, interior valves) 
  • Conduct daily Hot Work Permit issuance, and daily hot work permit audits 
  • Drive and operate emergency vehicles.   
  • Participates in on-going training and education sessions  
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly apparatus checks 
  • Participates in the daily functions of the fire station which may include housekeeping, maintenance activities and other related duties 
  • Assists in completing incident records, apparatus checks and maintains records.  
  • Utilize portable radios for fire department communications  

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

High School Diploma, or G.E.D. 

Valid Driver’s License: preferred South Carolina with Class E endorsement 

South Carolina IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter II certification  

Emergency Medical Responder Certification or National Registry EMT-B

Preferred: 

Confined Space Rescue 

Hazardous Materials Technician 

Rope Rescue Technician  

Emergency Vehicle Drivers Training 

Pump Operations

While performing the duties of this job, fire department personnel are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, lift, talk, see, hear, feel, use clear speech and operate vehicles.  

There is a need to work at heights over 50 feet and in confined spaces, and reach and perform moderate and frequent heavy lifting during use of tools and equipment, while assisting others during fire suppression, extrication or treating ill/injured persons.
